Gurgaon has one of the fastest-growing pet parent communities in India. Between the expat families in DLF Phase 1-5, the young professionals in Sector 49-57, and the dog-friendly gated societies along Golf Course Road, this city has no shortage of people who treat their pets like family. But when it comes to boarding, the options have not kept pace.
If you have ever searched for "pet boarding in Gurgaon" or "dog boarding Gurgaon," you have probably noticed the same thing. Most kennels are tucked away on the outskirts, somewhere past Sohna Road or out towards Manesar. That means a 45-minute drive each way on drop-off day, a stressed pet in the car, and the nagging worry that you have left them somewhere far from help if anything goes wrong.
There is a better option. Home boarding, where your pet stays with a verified host in their own home, right in your neighbourhood.
The Kennel Problem in Gurgaon
Gurgaon's geography makes kennels particularly inconvenient. The city's core, from MG Road through Cyber City to Golf Course Road, is dense and urban. There is simply no space for a large-scale kennel operation in these areas. So kennels set up shop on the fringes, often in semi-rural plots near Sohna, Pataudi, or along NH-48 towards Jaipur.

Summer heat. From April through June, temperatures regularly cross 45 degrees Celsius. Any host who does not have 24-hour AC is not an option. Walks need to happen early morning and late evening only. Paw burns from hot pavement are a real risk during the day. Ask your host about their walking schedule in summer.
Monsoon flooding. July and August bring waterlogging to large parts of the city. Golf Course Road, Sohna Road, and several sectors in New Gurgaon are notorious for flooding. If your host lives in a ground-floor apartment in a flood-prone area, ask how they manage walks when the roads are underwater. Terrace or balcony access becomes critical during monsoon weeks.
Winter air quality. From November to January, Gurgaon's AQI regularly crosses 400. Prolonged outdoor exposure is harmful for dogs, especially brachycephalic breeds like Pugs and Bulldogs. The AVMA recommends limiting outdoor time for pets during poor air quality days. A good host will shorten walks on bad air days and keep your pet indoors with a purifier running. This is not being overcautious. It is basic care for the NCR climate.
Where to Look for Hosts in Gurgaon
DLF Phase 1-5 and Sushant Lok. The original Gurgaon neighbourhoods. A mix of independent houses and apartments, well-connected to vets and pet stores. Hosts here tend to have more space than those in newer high-rises. Walking infrastructure is decent, with several parks nearby.
Golf Course Road and Golf Course Extension. Premium high-rises with excellent amenities. Many societies here are actively pet-friendly with designated walking areas. Hosts in these buildings often have large apartments with balconies. The downside is traffic. Getting in and out during peak hours can be painful.
Sector 49-57 (New Gurgaon). Rapid development means lots of young families, many with pets. Good availability of hosts, though the neighbourhood is still maturing. Some areas lack footpaths, so ask where the host walks their dogs.
Sohna Road. More affordable housing means more spacious apartments. Further from central Gurgaon, but if you live in this corridor, a Sohna Road host makes more sense than someone near Cyber City. Check for flood preparedness during monsoon months.
South City and Nirvana Country. Independent houses and villa communities. These are some of the best boarding environments in Gurgaon because of the space available. Hosts here often have gardens or terraces, which is ideal for dogs who need outdoor access without street walks.
Pricing in Gurgaon
Pet boarding in Gurgaon tends to run slightly higher than other NCR cities like Noida or Faridabad. This reflects the cost of living and the quality of housing. Expect to pay anywhere from 500 to 1,200 rupees per night for home boarding, depending on the host's experience, location, and the size of your pet.
That said, the gap between home boarding and a good kennel is often smaller than people assume. When you factor in the transport costs to an outskirts kennel plus the comfort premium of your pet staying in a real home, home boarding frequently comes out as the better value.
For longer stays of a week or more, many hosts offer discounted rates. It is worth asking directly.
Boarding vs. Sitting: Which One Fits
Both options exist and they solve different problems.
Boarding means your pet goes to the host's home. Best for travel trips where you need full-time coverage. Your pet gets a change of scenery, a dedicated caregiver, and a structured daily routine.
Sitting means a sitter comes to your home. Your pet stays in their own environment. This is ideal for cats (who almost always prefer staying home), anxious dogs, or pets with medical needs that benefit from familiar surroundings. The choice depends on your pet's temperament. A confident, social dog will love boarding. A nervous cat or a senior dog on medication will do better with sitting.
